WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE DO
OUR ORGANISATION, PETERBOROUGH-ELY-NORWICH RAIL USERS
Most members and all officers are individual volunteers, though local
authorities may affiliate or provide benefits.
OUR PURPOSE
We support
- Hourly trains between
Birmingham and Stansted Airport, Liverpool and Norwich, Norwich and
Cambridge with present standard stops.
- Targeted development of bus
interchange, car, cycle and taxi parking at, walking and wheelchair routes
to, stations.
- The principal of station
"star ratings" with appropriate facilities.
Advocacy is a vital function; helping our members to be confident
ambassadors a priority.
OUR BELIEFS
We believe:
- In maximum appropriate use
of rail for freight.
- In franchises funded and
specified so that government targets for overcrowding and customer service
can be met.
- In the desirability of a
Milton Keynes to Cambridge railway.
- That franchises should be
funded and structured to allow and encourage managers to develop our
services.
- In whole route approaches to
engineering access, with timely maintenance and renewal of infrastructure.
- That extra taxpayer-funded
trains should be prioritised on value for money.
We welcome extra stops in our trains where it can be professionally
demonstrated that these stops would increase passenger numbers overall.
OUR ACTIVITIES
We enjoy observer status on Norfolk Rail Policy Group, working closely with
local authority officers and industry managers, while liaising with other
voluntary groups.
The journey experiences of our members can be articulated in our newsletter and
inform our networking.
